Poverty

LINK: http://www.takingitglobal.org/connections/stories/story.html?MemberID=111835

In this article, i learned more about povery and how it really affects the world. I am a person that really likes animals so i personally am very involved with that. I am a vegetarian and I really feel sorry for all the animals that do suffer because of all the very mean people that actually KILL them which is why I became a vegetarian. But poverty I think now is a BIG issue as well. There are people in the world that aren't as fortunate as to have everything that I do. I am very grateful and hope to give back to the community and other places. These issues both are very important and both similar in many ways. I hope that I can in the future learn even MORE about poverty and help more with these issues.

The Member Story I Read

Link: http://www.takingitglobal.org/connections/stories/story.html?MemberID=8895
The reason I chose this story is because when I read the little preview, it meant sometehing. when se said: "My grandmother who stood up to soldiers at war, my mother who worked from sunlight to starlight, my sister's commitment to our family, my brothers' hard work to make us happy. I am inspired by persistence in the face of pain, endurance in the face of poverty, courage in the face of adversity." It really ment something, not just words but feelings of what that girl has seen. Also what her family has seen, and I felt for her, simpathy, but happiness for her. Happiness because she became a better person because of her expirience and it has driven her to make a differerence.
This girl was inspiered from her pain, memories, and her family's past and history of the thigs they did to stand up and take charge.

The way this girls expirience was different from mine is I have gotten almost everything I want and I am also... really Spoiled and this girl did not have all this stuff that I do. She also probably did not have as many options available to herself like I do.

Ntamack John Billong from Cameroon

This man named Ntamack John Billong lives in Cameroon. His story was interesting to me because he said he wants to help fight HIV/AIDS. He had a friend who got, suffered and died from HIV. Ntamack was so sad, he wants to dedicate himself to stopping it. That experience had rocked his life, and know, he is ready to give back.

Member Story - Uganda
Acerca de esta categoría: Educación

http://www.takingitglobal.org/connections/stories/story.html?MemberID=133689

I read a member story from a person in Uganda. I have a special place in my heart for Uganda, Africa because last year my students made books for the children there. Sadly, many children in Uganda are forced to become soldiers and join the Lord's Resistance Army, or LRA. Like Semakula, I also am inspired by the words and actions of Nelson Mandela. My favorite quote of his is, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
